Albuquerque, NM (KKOB)- An Albuquerque man is in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center charged with an open count of murder, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, and two counts of abandonment or abuse of a child without death or great bodily harm. In connection with a road rage shooting death in Northwest Albuquerque on Friday August 7.
APD detectives arrested Victor Rivera-Jimenez 35, is accused of fatally shooting 30-year old Corsinio Martinez shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday on northbound Unser Blvd., N.W.
A witness said they saw and heard three gunshots fired from a black pickup truck, and saw a Hyundai Elantra, driven by Martinez, crash into a light pole north of Tierra Pintada Blvd. When officers arrived they found Martinez with gunshot wounds inside the car. He died at the scene.
APD spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos says Real Time Crime Center identified the vehicle involved in the shooting using automated license plate readers. The vehicle, a black GMC Sierra pickup owned by Rivera-Jimenez, was located on Saturday and surveilled while detectives continued to investigate.
During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance video showing Rivera-Jimenez with a woman and two children arrive at a restaurant after the shooting and determined the woman and children were in the truck at the time of the shooting.
An arrest warrant for Rivera-Jimenez was obtained and SWAT officers took him into custody late Saturday at a home in Southwest Albuquerque. Rivera-Jimenez confessed to the shooting, alleging he was being followed and was in fear for his life.
He will remain in custody until his initial hearing
