ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — More than 50 volunteers are expected to help improve two Albuquerque high school campuses this weekend as part of United Way of North Central New Mexico’s Day of Caring initiative.
The annual volunteer event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at Cibola High School and Manzano High School, where participants will take part in campus beautification and improvement projects ahead of the start of the new school year.
United Way officials say the effort supports the organization’s Youth Opportunity strategy and its ongoing partnership with the Academies of Albuquerque, which focuses on helping students prepare for college and careers.
Organizers say the projects are designed to create welcoming and supportive learning environments for students returning to campus this fall.
“Day of Caring connects local businesses and volunteers with schools to create environments where students can thrive,” said Rodney Prunty, president and CEO of United Way of North Central New Mexico, in a statement.
The event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and is expected to bring together corporate volunteers from across the Albuquerque area. Sponsors include Comcast and Groundworks.
