APD says the scammer are using photos of a sale listing from popular sites like Zillow, then requesting prospective renters to pay a deposit even though the home is not available for rent. Realtors say if a seller or landlord refuses to show you the house in person that could be a big red flag. One way to protect yourself is to cross reference the rental ad with official real estate platforms before sending any deposit money.
