Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Albuquerque Police Department is warning renters about a scam involving homes that are listed for sale but falsely advertised as rentals. Police say scammers copy photos from real estate websites and post the homes online at below-market prices. Victims are then asked to send a deposit before viewing the property. Realtors say the scammers often claim they’re out of town or that multiple applicants are interested in the home. After receiving the money, they disappear. Authorities say prospective renters should verify listings and never send money before seeing a property in person.
