Albuquerque, NM ( KKOB) — The City of Albuquerque is warning residents about hazardous items in household trash after two garbage truck fires this week. According to the Solid Waste Department, one fire occurred on Academy Parkway Wednesday, followed by another near Acoma on Thursday. Officials say extreme heat and compacted trash can increase the risk of fires, especially when items like lithium-ion batteries, electronics, paint, and pool chemicals are thrown away improperly. No injuries were reported, but one garbage truck is being inspected for damage. City officials say the incidents highlight the importance of proper disposal of potentially hazardous waste.
