Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A 20-year-old Deming man is headed to federal prison after admitting to selling drugs and an illegally modified firearm and later fleeing from Border Patrol agents. According to the Department of Justice, Gerald Lopez sold cocaine and a Glock handgun equipped with a conversion device that allowed automatic fire to an undercover officer. Months later, prosecutors say Lopez led agents on a high-speed chase after fleeing a Border Patrol checkpoint in Luna County. A federal judge sentenced Lopez to 101 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
