ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico drivers are seeing some relief at the gas pump as fuel prices continue to trend downward across the state.
According to the latest AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.92, a decrease of 14 cents compared to last week. Despite the decline, prices remain 97 cents higher than they were at this time last year.
Among New Mexico’s major metropolitan areas, Farmington is reporting the highest average price at $4.28 per gallon, while Albuquerque has the lowest average at $3.82 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline stands at $4.06, down four cents from a week ago.
AAA says the recent surge in fuel prices appears to be slowing, offering some relief for motorists. However, prices remain elevated compared to both last month and a year ago, and experts say drivers should continue to expect fluctuations tied to crude oil prices and conditions in global energy markets.
“New Mexico drivers are seeing a more noticeable decline in gas prices this week as the recent surge at the pump loses momentum,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA New Mexico. “However, prices remain elevated compared with last month and last year, so motorists should continue to expect some volatility.”
