Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A researcher at New Mexico State University is taking a closer look at a dangerous problem on roadways: drivers illegally passing stopped school buses. Professor Michael Hout says his team will collect data using driving simulators and bus-mounted cameras to better understand why some drivers fail to stop when children are loading or unloading. The study will also examine how different stop-arm designs and bus features affect driver attention. Researchers hope the findings will help reduce school bus safety violations in the future.
