Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Besides marking their ballot for the next governor, voters will be considering GO Bond 3, which would authorize more than $350-million for improvements to colleges, universities, special and tribal schools statewide. UNMH officials say that if the bond were to pass, it would help them build their largest project yet, a new school of medicine. It would give more than $351 million to higher education statewide, with the University of New Mexico receiving the largest chunk of money, about $126.1 million. Of that sum, about $116 million would help build a new school of medicine and replace Fitz Hall, built in 1967. The total cost to build the new school is $636 million. The legislature and UNM have already put forth millions toward the project and GO Bond 3 would provide the last piece of funding needed.
