Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) —
A newly indicted Otero County woman accused of trafficking and abusing her children had previously been the subject of several welfare checks and abuse investigations, according to law enforcement records. Authorities say Landy Carrejo, 37, is accused of trafficking her children to an El Paso businessman and physically abusing them. Reports show deputies responded to concerns about the children multiple times over a five-year period, including allegations of neglect and physical discipline that left injuries. In at least one case, prosecutors declined to pursue charges due to insufficient evidence. Carrejo now faces multiple criminal charges following a grand jury indictment, and the investigation spans both New Mexico and Texas.
