Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Thousands of New Mexicans will be losing Medicare Advantage coverage because three insurers are dropping plans from their networks. Presbyterian Healthcare Services announced in August that it would end all Advantage plans, which will impact 30,000 people. Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico and Christus Health will also drop most Advantage plans which supplement the basic Medicare which most people who are 65 years old and older get from the federal government.
Now, tens of thousands of New Mexicans will need to choose between enrolling with other insurers like Devoted Health, HealthSpring, Humana, Molina and UnitedHealthcare, or just accept the basic Medicare coverage. People can call the State Insurance Assistance Program for help at 800-432-2080.
Presbyterian is holding a Medicare resource fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on October 22 to help connect people with brokers and insurers. Using a broker to help guide and maneuver the options is a good idea because they can do all the work for you in determining what are your best options.
