Xcel Energy is warning customers that a Public Safety Power Shutoff may be necessary Tuesday beginning about 8am due to the expected high winds in the area. Unseasonably warm, dry conditions, low humidity and parched vegetation along with the winds have increased the likelihood of wildfires especially in areas that have not received any recent rainfall. “If extreme conditions materialize on Tuesday, shutting off power in specific high-risk areas may be necessary to protect public safety,” Xcel Energy President Adrian J. Rodriguez said. The utility says If you rely on electrically powered medical equipment you’re urged to prepare backup power options. Xcel Energy serves Eddy, Chavez, Lea, Curry and Roosevelt counties.
