Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –City of Albuquerque inspectors found numerous problems at the Monte 44 Apartments after several complaints from tenants. Problems like sewage backup in bathrooms, kitchens and parking lots, electrical hazards, flooding, broken windows and pest infestations are some of the problems tenants have faced at the complex. They decided to form a union and allowed code enforcement crews to inspect the apartments. In addition to the code violations, APD has received almost 800 calls for service at the apartments since last year. Mayor Tim Keller said the owners of the complex were already on the city’s list of lazy landlords. Formal complaints will be issued to the landlord and they will have 15 days to get the complex into compliance or file an appeal. If the landlord does not comply they could be liable for $17,500 in fines per day.
