Las Cruces, NM (KKOB)- Nearly a year after gunfire erupted at Young Park, the only adult charged in the case heads to trial today in Las Cruces. 21-year-old Tomas Rivas, the only adult charged in last March’s shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces. The shooting happened during an unsanctioned car meet, where three teenagers were killed and 15 others were injured—many while running from the gunfire and the panic that followed.
Rivas and three juveniles arrested in the case all have prior criminal histories, according to court records. Rivas is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Jury selection and opening statements are expected to start today.
