Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –It’s been more than four years since a young mother in Hobbs tossed her newborn baby into a dumpster. It was January 2022 and Alexis Avila was 18 years old at the time. The baby was miraculously found alive and weeks later the teenage father reported his baby is healthy and happy. After a year on house arrest, Avila was convicted and sentenced to 16 years in prison however her case has been through the courts on appeal. On Wednesday Avila’s attorney attempted one more time to keep Avila from serving her full 16 years but a judge ruled the sentence would stand. Avila was taken into custody and ordered to begin her 16 year sentence.
