Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Albuquerque Fire and Rescue answering a call around 7 this morning at 1103 La Poblana, for a reported structure fire. When fire crews arrived, they reported black smoke showing. Fortunately the fire was under control in about 10 minutes, no injuries were reported. AFR reports that the cause of the fire was determined to be a space heater.
AFR would like to remind everyone that space heaters are a common cause of structural fires. They recommend to be very careful of how you use space heaters and always ensure there is adequate space around the heater to prevent fires.
This morning’s fire added to a busy weekend for Albuquerque Fire and Rescue.
Early Sunday morning, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a building fire, at 216 Española around 5:30 a.m., when fire crews arrived they saw flames coming from the back of the building. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, but there was damage to the building, with part of the roof and floor collapsing. Officials say this was an abandoned building that had caught fire before.
During the day Sunday, AFR answered a fire call to 1010 Mustang Trail SE for a residential structure fire at a mobile home with reports of a person inside. The home received extensive damage, but there was no one home at the time. It was ruled an accidental fire.
Then on Sunday night around 7 p.m., AFR was dispatched to 1010 Bellamah Ave. NW for reports of a fire at a two-story residence. Damage to the home was extensive and AFR is currently investigating the fire may have been caused by a homeless person, the fire started in the attic. A total of 33 firefighters responded.
