Albuquerque, NM(KKOB) – One person is recovering in the hospital after firefighters rescued them from a burning abandoned building in northwest Albuquerque. This is at least the third fire at an abandoned apartment or home this week in Albuquerque.
AFR units arrived at the property on 60th Street Northwest and found heavy smoke coming from inside the building. Rescue crews went inside to search the building while firefighters worked to bring the flames under control. During that search, firefighters located an unconscious person and carried them out of the building. AFR crews treated the individual on scene before they were taken to the hospital.
The fire was contained in about 30 minutes. No firefighters were hurt. The building had been vacant, and investigators are working to determine what started the fire and whether anyone had been staying inside.
