ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Bernalillo County has completed phase three of the Mesa Del Sol Sports Complex, adding four new turf fields and bringing the total to 12. County officials say the expansion strengthens the complex’s role as a destination for tournaments and regional sports.
Funding for the project hasn’t been without challenges. In early 2025, the county requested $4.3 million in capital outlay during the legislative session to support future development. Voters also approved $2.2 million in bonds in 2024 as part of a $40.5 million parks and recreation package. However, some state-allocated funds were later redirected, including $5 million originally earmarked for youth sports, which went toward a New Mexico United soccer stadium instead.
With phase three complete, Bernalillo County is now working to secure funding for phase four, which would expand field capacity, improve amenities, and grow opportunities for youth and regional sports.
