Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A Cubero man is charged with second-degree murder after a New Year’s Day shooting on the Pueblo of Laguna. The FBI says 49-year-old Donald Thompson was arrested after a man was found dead at a cemetery. The victim hasn’t been identified. Court records show Thompson claimed self-defense, saying the man approached him and a woman aggressively while they guarded a gravesite. Thompson admitted he had been drinking and wasn’t sure if the man was armed. Witnesses reported that Thompson was armed with a rifle and fired a single shot during the confrontation, and he later admitted to shooting the victim, claiming he believed he was acting in self-defense. If convicted, Thompson faces life in prison.
The FBI investigation continues.
