Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Groundbreaking took place today (THUR) at the San Mateo Towers at San Mateo and Central. Serenade @ Park Central a 110-unit mixed income housing community with 41 units dedicated to affordable housing, will get a complete renovation after several years of vacancy, vandalism and fires. City Councilor Nicole Rogers told KKOB a security company will be on site during the cleanup and construction to insure the area remains free of vandalism. As for amenities for the area Rogers went on to say that the city is in negotiations for the old Albertsons location to bring a grocery store back to the area. She would also like to see a multi-generational center come to District 6 and thinks one of the vacant Walmart, Walgreens or CVS locations could be a site for the center.
