Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – One person has died and the driver of the car he was a passenger in, is in jail on DWI and other charges.
Joshua Montoya, 24, was arrested for driving drunk following the crash that happened around 8:35 p.m Wednesday December 31st, at the intersection of Wyoming and Indian School in northeast Albuquerque.
The preliminary investigation indicates a White Lincoln was heading south on Wyoming Blvd, when the driver was going to make a left hand turn (Eastbound) on Indian School Rd.
As the white Lincoln entered the intersection, a U-Haul was in the turn lane obstructing the drivers view.
A silver Honda, was traveling northbound on Wyoming, police say, it appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit the white Lincoln. The passenger of the white Lincoln was pronounced dead on scene. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life threating injuries. According to APD, Montoya, the driver of the silver Honda, admitted to consumption of alcohol and the on-call DWI officer was contacted and went to the hospital to do an investigation.
Montoya, was arrested for DWI and Vehicular Homicide.
All evidence on scene was gathered and collected by detectives and the investigation is on-going. The name of the victim of the accident has not been released.
Correction: APD has corrected the name of the suspected DWI driver as Joshua Montoya, 24; not Montaño as they initially released.
