Albuquerque, NM (KKOB)- A man who was out of jail for another violent crime, is now under arrest for a murder that happened earlier this week at an Albuquerque bus stop on Central and Louisiana. 56-year old Bernest Benjamin, is being held without bond at MDC, on an open count of murder. Officers were called to the scene Tuesday night around 10 P.M by a transit officer, who reported that a man had been stabbed in the chest and collapsed on Central Ave. The transit officer also stated that the suspect was still in the area. Benjamin, was arrested near Zuni and Alcazar and just a few blocks from the scene of the stabbing. Once in custody, officers learned that he had an outstanding warrant for another crime committed back in August and was arrested in November for trying to rob a woman and throwing rocks at her. He was released on his own recognizance just two weeks ago for that case. A knife believed to be the murder weapon was found in Benjamin’s possession.
No other details over why the stabbing occurred have been released.
