ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – As temperatures drop, Albuquerque Fire Rescue is seeing more warming fires in public spaces—and they’re taking action.
AFR crews will extinguish any outdoor fire that is:
- On public property
- Not authorized
- Violates city rules
- Creates a hazard
Key Restrictions
- No open ground fires or improvised fire pits in public spaces
- Open burning is banned in the Bosque and all Albuquerque Open Space areas
- When winds exceed 15 mph, all open burning and recreational fires are prohibited citywide
AFR’s Fast Attack 1 unit is dedicated to responding to these incidents and patrolling areas with frequent reports.
When to Call 911
Report immediately:
- Any fire activity in public spaces (parks, streets, alleys, sidewalks, vacant lots)
- Any fire threatening a structure or property
Early reporting helps prevent small fires from becoming dangerous emergencies.
