Los Lunas- Charges have been filed against an Albuquerque man for a head-on crash that happened on El Cerro Loop and Sandhill Road in Los Lunas. 37-year old, Richard Gutierrez Molina was arrested at the scene of the crash and faces multiple charges including Homicide by vehicle and driving with a revoked drivers license.
38-year old, Veronica Ferraro was the driver of the other vehicle, died on the scene. Her two daughters ages 12 and 7 were critically injured. One of the girls remains in the ICU at University of New Mexico Hospital.
Initial reports indicate that Gutierrez Molina was driving a Ford pick-up on El Cerro Loop on Sunday afternoon at a very high rate of speed when he crossed into the path of a Honda sedan driven by Ferraro, crashing head-on.
According to the sheriff’s office investigation, Molina admitted he had been drinking before the crash. He refused to take a field sobriety test and a warrant was obtained in order to draw blood for analysis. He was taken to an Albuquerque hospital and will be taken to the Valencia County Jail once he is released.
Molina now faces several charges related to the crash including homicide by vehicle and driving with a revoked drivers license.
Valencia County Sheriff, Denise Vigil, says the investigation into the crash is ongoing. Molina had a history of DWI arrests in the past.
