Albuquerque- More than $200 million in federal funds are coming to New Mexico according to senators Ben Ray Lujan and Martin Heinrich, from the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bills. $195,250,000 is earmarked for the state’s three Air Force bases Cannon, Holloman and Kirtland. Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, will be getting $3.2 million for a child development center. The money will be coming from the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill. Counties in northern New Mexico will receive just over $2 million for fire and emergency response agencies in Rio Arriba and San Juan Counties as well as the community of Truchas. The towns of Estancia and Mesilla will receive money to improve their town halls. $1.513 million going to Estancia and Mesilla will receive $1 million. Those funds are from the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.
“While I’m grateful to have secured these funds, the process by which these bills passed was deeply frustrating,” Lujan said. “With costs so high, we must do more to ensure that life remains affordable for New Mexico families.
