Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – An Albuquerque man is facing federal charges related to possessing and distributing child pornography including images and videos of prepubescent children.
According to the U.S Attorney’s Office for New Mexico, 35-year old Julian Alcantar Rodriguez, was arrested on January 22, 2026, after agents with Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant at his home in Southwest Albuquerque. Agents recovered his cellphone, which contained numerous images and videos of child sexual abuse material.
Alcantar, is charged with distribution and possession of child pornography. He will remain in custody pending trial, which has not been scheduled. Court records indicate that HSI began investigating Alcantar after receiving several reports of online child sexual exploitation from October 2021 to July of 2025. According to the USAO, the activity involved several social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Google and identified Alcantar as the person behind the accounts.
If convicted of the current charges, Alcantar faces five to 20 years in prison.
