Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A nearly 80-year old holiday tradition will happen tomorrow (Saturday) in one of Albuquerque’s oldest neighborhoods. The annual “Las Posadas de Barelas” will begin tomorrow at 6 P.M at the Barelas Community Center. Las Posadas, is the re-enactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter in Bethlehem. Participants in the Barelas Posada, will visit eight pre-selected homes where they are turned away before arriving at the Sacred Heart Church for the birth of Christ. Afterwards, there will be more activities at the community center including Matachines dancers and a visit from Santa Claus. This is the 79th year of the Posadas de Barelas.
