Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Saturday evening the Albuquerque Police Department mounted patrol unit was assigned with crowd control in downtown Albuquerque when a polce horse was assaulted.. According to a criminal complaint, 20-year-old Santiago Cazares has been charged with spitting at one of the police horses. The complaint states that Cazares walked close to the police horse and spit a “loogie” at his direction. The officer asked if Cazares intentionally did that and Cazares replied that he did purposefully spit at the animal.The officer tried to detain Cazares, when he took off and attempted to evade arrest. It didn’t take mounted patrol and uniformed officers long to get him into custody. Cazares was charged with injury to a police dog or horse, resisting and evading police, and disorderly conduct.
