Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Four people are displaced after a house fire in far northwest Albuquerque Sunday—and firefighters also made a life-saving rescue for two pets. Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the 8700 block of Downhurst NW around 4 p.m. after multiple 911 calls. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and a working fire burning in the rear of the home. Firefighters were able to get the flames under control within about 20 minutes, but the house suffered moderate to heavy damage throughout.
One person was evaluated at the scene. During the response, crews located and rescued two cats from inside the home. Officials say both animals were safely brought out as firefighters searched the structure. Four residents are now displaced, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
