The statewide gas price averaged $2.80 in NM for regular unleaded fuel this week. That’s up 20 cents when compared to this day last week and 11 cents less when compared to a year ago. Drivers in Farmington are paying the most on average at $2.95 per gallon with drivers in Santa Fe paying the least at $2.65 per gallon. The national average is $2.98 per gallon of regular unleaded. Refineries will soon begin transitioning to summer-blend gasoline thus an increase in gas prices. Summer blend fuel contains additional components designed to reduce evaporation in warmer temperatures making it more expensive to produce. Spring break and seasonal getaway travel will contribute to increased fuel demand which could also result in higher gas prices at the pump.
