Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A prescribed burn is planned for the Lincoln National Forest beginning today through March 7th. If favorable weather continues the planned work includes a 460 acre pile burn in the 16 Springs Block 2 area along Forest Road 288 near Latham Canyon. Smoke may be visible in Mayhill, 16 Springs and James Canyon. Officials say prescribed fire is a key tool in reducing hazardous fuels and lowering the risk of high severity wildfires that threaten nearby communities, infrastructure and natural resources. Residents can stay updated on the scheduled burns through the forest’s website and social media.
