ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – A $7,000 cash reward is now being offered as law enforcement agencies continue searching for two suspects accused of shooting at a New Mexico State Police officer during a traffic stop.
DeBaca County Crime Stoppers announced the reward for information leading to the conviction of either suspect: Jovan Martinez and Makaela Johnson. Martinez is believed to be the person who fired at the officer.
According to investigators, Martinez has an active arrest warrant for multiple charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault on a peace officer, conspiracy involving a stolen vehicle, armed robbery, aggravated fleeing, and harboring a felon.
Authorities say both Martinez and Johnson’s phones were last traced to the Fort Sumner area. Several law enforcement agencies are now focused on locating the pair.
As a precaution, Fort Sumner Municipal Schools will be closed Wednesday while the search continues.
Anyone with information is urged to contact DeBaca County Crime Stoppers.
