Taos, NM (KKOB) – One of two men charged with killing an Army veteran in Taos County has been sentenced after pleading guilty to murder charges. David DeGroat will spend 44 years in prison for the killing of Matthew McLaughlin.
Another man also charged in the murder identified as Rainor Joiner is expected to go on trial in December.
The victitm had shared a home with the two other men charged with his murder.
Joiner told authorities he shot McLaughlin with DeGroat’s help. Investigators said Joiner also told deputies he forced DeGroat to help dismember McLaughlin’s body and then threw the remains in bags along the highway.
