Las Cruces, NM (KKOB)- A Las Cruces man will serve just under four years in prison in connection with a deadly shooting that happened at a Las Cruces house party in December 2023.
Angel Hurtado was arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence.
Jose Cortes was killed during the party, but according to a report there were discrepancies in witness accounts of what happened. Investigators said that Hurtado was handling a gun when Cortes was accidentally shot in the forehead.
Hurtado, however, told deputies that Cortes had been showing off the gun and accidentally shot himself after Hurtado briefly handled and returned it.
