Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Former New Mexico union treasurer Max Jaramillo faces up to 20 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release. From 2014 to February of 2024, Jaramillo was entrusted with safeguarding funds for the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, Local 331, in Albuquerque and accurately reporting the union’s financial activities. However, from January 2015 through November 2023, court records show he used union funds for “unauthorized personal expenses.” Records show he submitted “false and incomplete” financial reports to the Department of Labor and union members. Jaramillo pleaded guilty to embezzlement by an officer of a labor organization.
