SANTA FE, N.M. — A community relief effort is underway to support residents affected by the Frijoles Fire, as firefighters continue working to contain the wildfire burning in northern New Mexico.
Organizers are collecting bottled water, non-perishable food, clothing, hygiene items, diapers, and baby formula at the Rio Rancho Events Center. Donations can be dropped off during New Mexico United and Albuquerque Isotopes games, as well as upcoming UNM women’s volleyball and football events.
Meanwhile, fire officials report the Frijoles Fire has grown to 13,120 acres and is 31% contained.
During a community meeting Tuesday evening, fire managers emphasized that significant work remains despite progress on containment lines. Current firefighting efforts have focused primarily on the western and northwestern edges of the fire, where several communities remain near the burn area.
Officials identified Rio Chiquito, Cordova, Cundiyó, Chimayó, and Truchas as communities located within several miles of the fire’s perimeter.
At this time, Camino del Cañon in Cundiyó remains the only area under evacuation orders.
Fire crews continue working to strengthen containment lines and protect nearby homes and infrastructure as the incident remains active.
