Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The trial for an Albuquerque man accused of killing a scooter driver in 2024 is scheduled to begin today (Mon). Eliazar Torres is facing homicide and reckless driving charges in the death of a man driving a scooter in November of 2024 at San Mateo and Candelaria. Officers said surveillance video shows Torres running a red light and hitting the scooter, killing the driver, Christopher Sanford. Data showed Torres was driving over 70 mph in a 40 mph zone. Police say about a week prior to the crash Torres was stopped for going 122 mph in a 75 mph zone.
