Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, is now asking the state’s Attorney General Raul Torrez to investigate whether any state laws were broken by federal agents after an Associated Press investigation revealed that the DEA allowed hundreds of thousands of fentanyl pills on to the streets of New Mexico, especially here in Albuquerque, as a way of trying to build larger criminal cases.
Mayor Tim Keller and Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen have also expressed their criticism. The governor wants the New Mexico Department of Justice to prosecute anyone responsible, saying “Make no mistake, the DEA knew people would die if these pills made it into New Mexico communities and the agency let it happen anyway.” Meanwhile, Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen whose department works closely with DEA, is also upset about this story, telling our news partners at the Albuquerque Journal, he has serious concerns about the DEA’s handling of the investigations and that the outcome didn’t justify the tactics. “we’re basically allowing the DEA to feed poison to our community for a bigger case.” No response from federal authorities so far on the investigation by the Associated Press which began after a DEA whistleblower reported the incidents.
