Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — On Tuesday, the New Mexico Film Office announced that film production spending in rural areas set a record of $55.74 million, beating the previous mark of $50.2 million in 2022. The Uplift Zone is a financial incentive to get filmmakers into New Mexico’s small towns. The program offers a 10% tax credit on anything filmed at least 60 miles from Santa Fe and Albuquerque. This is in addition to the 25% base credit on film expenditures in New Mexico. Additional incentives can bring the total tax credit for a project to 40%. New Mexico Film Office Director Steve Graham said the rural incentive program supports economic development and job growth in small towns. For small towns, this provides an immediate and significant impact.
