CLOVIS, N.M. — Clovis police have made an arrest in a deadly shooting that happened earlier this month along Main Street.
Officers were called to the 1100 block of Main Street just after 12:30 a.m. on June 20, where they found a 22-year-old man in the roadway with a gunshot wound. The victim, identified as Eleno Cristobal Vicente Gallegos of Clovis, was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
Police say 26-year-old Tony Hamilton-Evans has been arrested in connection with the case. He is now facing charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Authorities say he was taken into custody without incident on June 23.
Investigators also identified a second individual, 18-year-old Zyeir Williams, who they say was involved in an altercation with Gallegos shortly before the shooting. Police say Williams is facing a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Detectives say they have conducted multiple interviews and reviewed video evidence as part of the investigation.
The case remains active, and police say additional information may be released as it becomes available.
