Navajo Nation (KKOB)- After a summer of bear sightings across New Mexico, authorities are investigating a fatal bear attack on the Navajo Nation.
Navajo Police say a man was killed Thursday afternoon in Crystal, a community located in San Juan and McKinley counties. Several agencies responded around 1 p.m. Authorities say the bear was shot and wounded during the attack before fleeing into a nearby wooded area, where it was later located and “neutralized.” The incident comes after multiple bear sightings in recent months, including reports in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights, the Foothills, and parts of Rio Rancho, where wildlife officials have urged residents to secure trash and remove attractants. The victim’s identity has not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
