ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — With storm season underway across New Mexico, PNM is encouraging customers to review their emergency plans and prepare for potential power outages caused by strong winds and rapidly changing weather conditions.
The utility says having an outage kit readily available can help households manage unexpected disruptions. Recommended supplies include flashlights, batteries, water, non-perishable food, a battery-powered radio, first aid items, cash, and a way to charge cell phones.
PNM also encourages residents to establish a family emergency plan in case severe weather leads to extended outages or requires temporary relocation.
Another key concern during storms is downed power lines. Utility officials remind customers to assume all downed lines are energized and potentially dangerous. Any downed wires or poles should be reported immediately to PNM and local authorities.
Customers are also encouraged to update their contact information with the utility to receive outage notifications and restoration updates during severe weather events.
PNM says preparing before storms arrive can help families respond more effectively when power interruptions occur.
