Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – A Santa Fe security guard involved in a shooting outside a McDonalds parking lot in 2024 pled guilty to misdemeanor charges and after serving 18-months in jail while awaiting his trial, has now been released.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports, prosecutors and defense attorneys both agreed that evidence and video surveillance showed 22-year-old private security guard Jair Rascon-Chavez fired one shot into the air while his co-worker, Luis Adrian Garcia, fired on a couple inside a pickup truck as they took off from the parking lot, a man was wounded in the shooting. Garcia pleaded guilty to attempted murder and received just a four-year prison sentence last year. Both men were off-duty when the shooting happened and ambushed the couple while they were sleeping in their truck in the McDonalds parking lot.
The victims’ family members were joined by three Santa Fe police officers in arguing against the plea deal during the Wednesday hearing, asking the judge to reject the plea in favor of a conviction on stiffer charges.
