Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of NM announced yesterday that a NM company has been added to The Department of Justice’s 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown list. Safeway Medical Transportation LLC, a NM non-emergency medical transportation provider was involved in an alleged scheme to fraudulently bill the NM Medicaid program for transportation services. According to the federal complaint, Safeway received Medicaid reimbursements for claims in which Safeway drivers were allegedly billing Medicaid for driving themselves to appointments and for trips that did not occur, engaging in other fraudulent billing practices, including duplicate trips, inflated mileage, and falsified transportation records.
