VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. — Thousands of residents in Valencia County were temporarily without power early Wednesday morning after an outage before sunrise.
According to PNM, the outage began around 5:16 a.m., affecting approximately 5,370 customers across an area stretching from Isleta Pueblo to Belen. The largest concentration of outages was reported northwest of Los Chavez.
Crews worked to restore service quickly. Some customers began getting power back within the hour, and by 6:16 a.m., electricity had been fully restored to all affected customers.
The cause of the outage has not yet been determined.
While outages like this are often brief, utility officials note they can happen unexpectedly. Residents are encouraged to report outages when they occur and stay informed through utility alerts and outage maps. Simple precautions — like keeping flashlights accessible and limiting the opening of refrigerators during an outage — can help minimize disruption.
PNM says customers can report outages and receive updates through its alert system.
