ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Eighteen residents were displaced Saturday afternoon after a fast‑moving fire damaged multiple units at a north Albuquerque apartment complex.
Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded around 12:30 p.m. to reports of a fire at the Academy Heights Apartments near the intersection of Academy Road and Wyoming Boulevard. Witnesses told crews the fire appeared to start in bushes outside the building before spreading.
Fire officials say flames and heavy smoke were visible when crews arrived, and the fire quickly extended into the roof of the structure. A second alarm was called to bring additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.
Six apartment units were damaged in the fire. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross assisted displaced residents with temporary housing and other immediate needs.
Fire investigators remain on scene and say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
