Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The names of three finalists for Albuquerque Police Chief were announced by APD Friday. Among the finalists is current APD Interim Chief Cecily Barker.
The other two finalists are, Dallas Area Rapid Transit or DART, Assistant Police Chief for Field Operations Gilberto Garza and Perry Tarrant, a former Assistant Police Chief in Seattle. APD had announced that 19 candidates had applied for the position and seven were interviewed.
Garza, spend over 25 years with the Dallas Police Department before moving to DART. DART is not part of the Dallas Police Department as it operates as its own department.
Tarrant, was Assistant Chief with the Seattle Police Department for three years overseeing the Special Operations Bureau. Before that, he spent 30 years with the Tucson Police Department. Currently he is Director of the Office of Law Enforcement Engagement and Integration at FEMA.
“I will make my choice based on what is best for public safety in Albuquerque.” Mayor Tim Keller said about the candidates. More than 1,000 residents have expressed their priorities for what they are looking for in the new chief.
Mayor Keller says he expects to make a decision by the end of the month.
