Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – An Albuquerque couple has pleaded guilty in the death of a 1-year old baby who overdosed on fentanyl and methamphetamines. Monique Sanchez and Thomas Soto pled guilty of charges including Abandonment of a Child Resulting in Death, and Child Abuse in the death of the baby during a Super Bowl party in 2024.
According to the DA’s office, Sanchez and Soto were hosting the party at their apartment on Montgomery and I-25 when they put the baby on the couch to sleep. The 1-year old was later found unresponsive and could not be revived.
The autopsy revealed that the baby died from acute fentanyl and meth toxicity. Two other children in the apartment were also exposed and tested positive for drug exposure.
The couple could face up to 18 years in prison.
