ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Albuquerque man has been sentenced to 38 years in prison for the death of a 6-month-old baby who investigators say was exposed to multiple illegal narcotics.
Lawrence Gabaldon received the sentence in connection with the death of the infant, which occurred in July 2023 at a motel on Iliff Road in northwest Albuquerque.
According to investigators, an Albuquerque police officer was flagged down at the motel and responded to a room where the baby girl was found unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities later determined that the child and her twin sister had been exposed to multiple drugs, including methamphetamine. The twin survived.
The case led to criminal charges against both Gabaldon and the children’s mother, Gloria Tesillo. In May 2024, Tesillo was convicted for her role in the child’s death.
Prosecutors argued the infant’s death was the result of dangerous conditions involving illegal drug exposure.
