Arterial, NM (KKOB) – A homicide investigation is underway after the body of a woman was found inside a storage closet at the Artesia Housing Authority on Saturday night.
Officers were called to that location to a report of an unconscious non-breathing person found inside a storage closet.
The closet was in the back porch of a vacant apartment. According to police, observations indicated the female appeared to have fallen from the storage closet and was likely inside for several days prior to being discovered.
The Artesia Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to process the crime scene.
Police say that so far the deceased female has not been positively identified and is being classified as a Jane Doe pending identification.
The victim’s body has been transported to the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause and manner of death, but based on evidence and information during the initial stages of the investigation, foul play is suspected, and this case is being investigated as a homicide.
This investigation remains active, and detectives are aggressively pursuing all leads.
